Reading and Phonics at Appletree

At Appletree we teach phonics using 'Read, Write, Inc'

Read Write Inc., developed by Ruth Miskin, provides a structured and systematic approach to teaching literacy and is designed to create fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers.

Children in Reception and KS1 take part in daily phonics sessions.

Parents are encouraged to support the learning in school by practising the sound cards that are sent home in reading folders with their children on a regular basis.

Reading at Appletree

We use the Oxford Reading Tree (ORT) and Ginn schemes to teach reading in school.

We are wonderful readers here at Appletree!  We love listening to stories and reading our books to enthusiastic adults in school.  We are also learning to read for pleasure and enjoy quiet reading times in our fantastic Seaside themed school library.  We have great links with the local schools library service who provide a vast range of texts for us to enjoy linked to our half termly topics.

Oxford Owl - Oxford Owl is an award-winning website to help support children’s learning, both at home and at school.  By signing up you have instant access to 250 free e books.  Each book has a comprehension check and the option to listen to the text being read.  Ask your class teacher if there is already a class login to use.
